Over the last 5 years, we have developed several products using the resin transfer molding process in conjunction with bladder molding. The result is a lightweight, damage tolerant, void free surface that can go directly from the mold to paint without all of the sanding and filling normally associated with the painting process.
For thin walled, hollow structures such as baseball bats, hockey and lacrosse shafts, and antennae, this process is very cost effective compared to prepreg fabrication.
Significant labor savings are seen in lay-up, molding, and finishing, resulting in a very high performance product that is cost competitive with products manufactured off shore. Rapid cycle times make this process easily scalable to mass production.
